Nadia Valinsky is a young female pilot and university student from Moscow. When the Germans invade the Soviet Union in 1941, she wants to fight to defend her country. In October 1941 Marina Raskova, a famous female aviator asks for volunteers and Nadia signs up right away. She is offered a place in the training regiment as a navigator.
The regiment travels to Engles Air Force base and commence training for the dangers that are to come as the Soviet Union fight off the Nazi invasion. Nadia meets many new friends -- both female and male -- but will they all survive the horrors of WWII?
